Why am I such a stickler on professional image? You don’t want to miss your shot!

Sometimes you only get one shot and you might not know it’s coming. You might run into the big client at the game, you might get called to do a TRO hearing, you might get asked for a ride back from the board meeting, the President of the organization might invite you to the VIP reception, you might get called to fill in. You just never know. When you keep your car clean, wear a suit, fix your hair and makeup, keep your nails done, and show you give a darn you are more likely to be called upon to step up, and when you are, you will be ready. I learned early in life that one thing I hated was being under-dressed. There is nothing sillier that can shake your confidence than wearing jeans when you get invited to lunch at a no denim country club. Awkward! As a lawyer, I’ve never felt overdressed. You seriously cannot go wrong with your hair and makeup done and a clean car. If I can’t get myself put together, how would anyone expect me to handle their billion dollar deal? Certainly I’m not wearing my Tory Burch heels and flat ironed hair to the beach, but I’m also not wearing my flip flops and wet hair to the firm. At Goosmann Law, every team member is a reflection of our brand. You don’t want to be the cause for embarrassment to your boss because you can’t fill in at the chamber dinner. Especially,  because your personal appearance isn’t up to par, or you can’t drive the team to lunch without everyone getting out with dog hair all over their black pants. Be the brand you want to be and own it. For me and my team, that’s polished, professional and mildly intimidating.
