December 19, 2013. Public support for an increase in the minimum wage has been improving, according to recent polls. Legislation is currently before the U.S. Senate to raise the rate from $7.25 to $10.10. The bill, named the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2013, was introduced in March of 2013 and currently sits in the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. The President has recently signaled his support, which is likely to reinvigorate the debate. The minimum wage was last raised in 2009. A current breakdown of the minimum wage across the states can be found here.
