December 20, 2013. The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Tyson Foods for four workplace safety violations at the Hutchinson, Kan., prepared foods manufacturing plant after a worker's hand was severed by an unguarded conveyor belt. The agency has proposed fines of $147,000. This is a reminder of how important it is for workers to follow OSHA's lockout/tagout safety standards in the workplace. As a result, Tyson has been placed on OSHA's Severe Violator Enforcement Program and must be subject to enhanced inspections.
