February 11, 2014. Rural businesses, through the “Made in Rural America” export and investment initiative, will be provided with additional resources to spur economic growth. The goal of this newly announced initiative is to combine federal resources to assist rural businesses and leaders in developing new investment opportunities and gaining access to new customers in foreign markets.
Through the coordinated efforts of the White House Rural Council, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Small Business Administration, the Export-Import Bank, the Office of the United States Trade Representative, and other agencies, this initiative will work to provide rural businesses of all types information and assistance related to various investment opportunities and access to foreign markets.
More specifically, over the next nine months five “Made in Rural America” regional forums will be held to provide rural businesses and leaders information about resources available to expand exports. Additionally, a comprehensive conference will be held later this year to connect experts in business, economic development, and government to assist in leveraging available resources. Furthermore, local USDA Rural Development staff will be providing the necessary training to ensure that they are able to fully assist rural businesses and leaders pursue the objectives of this initiative.
