Business Spotlight: Vizio in Dakota Dunes

Are you familiar with Vizio televisions? You’ve walked by them in Wal-Mart, and other major retailers selling televisions. I own one myself. But did you know they’re also a major South Dakota employer?

Five years ago, Vizio started in Dakota Dunes with twenty people in a call center. Today, they number over 200. Yesterday I met with Allen Beeck of Vizio and toured their state of the art facility in Dakota Dunes. As noted, they employ approximately 200 people and provide all the technical support and sales phone calls for Vizio, the number one flat screen television manufacturer in the country.

Vizio currently holds 21% of the flat screen market in the United States and is about to overtake Samsung in flat screen television in sales. JD Powers and Associates ranked Vizio the number one flat screen television manufacturer for both 2012 and 2013.

Vizio currently occupies the west wing of the Tyson headquarters in the Dakota Dunes Business Park. The office space is very comfortable and provides a great working environment for all the folks that work at Vizio. In fact, they like their location and their team so well that Vizio is expanding and looks to continue its growth in the Dakota Dunes area by hiring more tech and sales representatives, among other staff.

Unlike most call centers where workers share small cramped spaces, each of their employees have a generous amount of space with personalized individual office space, which they aren’t required to share with anyone, even though there are multiple shifts utilizing the same room.

Employees also enjoy generous benefits including health insurance, retirement plans and access to the company’s latest products.

Vizio is a great example of how South Dakota’s business climate and the work ethic of our residents are a great pairing for national corporate offices looking for a local partner. They’re a great employer for us, and in turn, they’ve contributed to the growth to District 16, and Dakota Dunes.
