Supreme Court Ends The Eviction Moratorium

Written by Gene Eckel | Aug 27, 2021 6:30:18 PM

The Supreme Court on Thursday ended the eviction moratorium created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has repeatedly renewed the eviction moratorium for tenants that may have been affected by the pandemic, in large part to allow them to remain in their homes as State and local governments struggle to disburse some $47 billion of rental assistance provided by Congress. The current eviction moratorium was set to expire October 3, 2021. It is important to note that the Supreme Court indicated that a new federal eviction moratorium could be implemented by Congress. The Supreme Court’s ruling, however does not apply to any additional moratoria enacted at the State or local levels.
