With over two decades of experience Dunning has represented nonprofit organizations, including advising on employment compliance issues across 11 jurisdictions. With a successful litigation and mediation history, he has defended clients in Iowa and Nebraska courts and in administrative proceedings in multiple states, including Nebraska Supreme Court and Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals arguments.

Dunning received his Juris Doctorate from State University of New York at Buffalo and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
