Ruettgers has deep South Dakota experience as former University of South Dakota Law legal writing professor and Career Law Clerk to Chief Justice Gilbertson on the South Dakota Supreme Court. She spent the last 4 years as an Assistant United States Attorney in Pierre representing the United States in litigation in federal court. Ruettgers is also launching Cyber Law Counsel, a boutique cybersecurity department within the firm. Through Goosmann’s Cyber Law Counsel, Ruettgers helps companies protect their property, resources, clients and name against cybercrimes, particularly among businesses handling private consumer information such as banks, finance companies, credit card processors, and health care providers. Ruettgers’ pertinent government experience as a former Assistant United States Attorney, as well as her experience in the health care industry gives Ruettgers a strong and relatable background in cybersecurity issues. Ruettgers worked in the health care industry for more than 10 years and understands the importance of data security protection and the issues that companies are facing today. “This is an exciting time for our firm as we grow in the Sioux Falls region. Marie’s ability to effectively manage crisis situations automatically made her someone I wanted on my team. With her unique ability, she finds creative ways to apply the law to her client’s advantage. She has never met an obstacle that she couldn’t find a solution to overcome. Marie is a valuable asset for any company and I am proud to have her on my team,” says Goosmann.
