The Eighth Circuit Judicial Conference for bench and bar will be held in Des Moines, Iowa on August 15th-17th at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center. The national conference will include renowned speakers and panelists offering attorneys the opportunity to learn alongside circuit, district, magistrate, and bankruptcy judges from the Eighth Circuit. This is a special event to be hosted in Iowa as the last time it is was held in the state was July of 1995.
The Conference will kick off with a welcome reception at the Hilton Des Moines Downtown hotel on Wednesday evening, August 15th. The event will feature an appearance by the Honorable Neil M. Gorsuch, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Several other distinguished speakers and panelists are confirmed, including Stephen J. Rapp, former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Global Criminal Justice, Vikram Amar, Dean of the University of Illinois College of Law, and Alan Ellis, past President of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. An ethics and sanctions discussion is scheduled with attorney Gregory P. Joseph, past President of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and Professor Emily Hughes, University of Iowa College of Law. Internationally renowned opera star and Iowa native Simon Estes will be a guest speaker as well as Salvatore “Sal” Augustine Giunta, native Iowan and former U.S. Army soldier and the first living person since the Vietnam War to receive the U.S. military’s highest decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor.
CLE sessions will be taking place throughout the conference for attorneys to choose from areas within civil, criminal, and bankruptcy. The internationally-acclaimed Iowa State Fair will also be underway during this time for attendees from across the nation to enjoy.
