The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued a final rule with new requirements for reporting work-related deaths, injuries and illnesses. The revised rule requires employers to report work-related fatalities within 8 hours and work-related hospitalizations, amputations and losses of an eye within 24 hours.
The current rule requires employers to report work-related fatalities and hospitalizations of three or more employees within 8 hours of the incident.
Also as part of the revised rule, OSHA has updated its list of industries partially exempted from having to keep records of injuries and illnesses. The revision reflects updated injury and illness data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Effective Jan. 1, 2014, the new rule maintains the exemption for employers of 10 or fewer workers.
