October 2, 2013. Individuals attempting to access the federally run health care exchanges, healthcare.gov, were unable to access the website for most of the roll-out day. Technical issues and visitors overwhelmed the site, with about 2.8 million visitors. The deadline for enrollment for coverage beginning January 1 is December 15. The Administration has its work cut out for it to resolve the technical issues plaguing the site. It is unclear how the government shutdown will affect the Department of Health and Human Services and the website fixes.

Meanwhile, Iowans attempting to access the exchange website saw their share of glitches. Iowa is partnering with the federal government through 2014. In 2015, Iowa has indicated the system will be fully state-run. Nebraska and South Dakota are also partnering with the federal government to host their exchanges.
