South Dakota employers will see an increase in the state’s minimum wage from $7.25 to $8.50 effective January 1, 2015. The state’s minimum wage will also automatically increase for inflation each year starting on January 1, 2016. The increase for inflation will be based on the Consumer Price Index, determined each August. The most recent CPI (August 2014) was 1.7%, but that rate will likely change each year.

Attorney Emilee Boyle Gehling was feature in the Human Resource Executive Magazine's October Issue discussing "Noncompete Clause Headaches." The article talked about a recent Missouri court decision that demonstrated how noncompete clauses may indeed protect an organization's best interests, but they can also cause plenty of legal and HR issues.
July 10, 2014. Attorney Emilee Boyle Gehling of the Goosmann Law Firm was recently appointed Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Business Law Section of the Young Lawyers Division. Gehling will be a key member of a dynamic group responsible for providing valuable benefits and services to approximately 130,000 members and 300 affiliated groups. Her term will begin August 12, 2014.
